GTS calibrations are developed for vehicles with all factory emissions equipment intact and functional. Features that remove or raise factory speed and rev limits are intended for closed-course use only. These calibrations are not CARB-certified, and the customer is responsible for compliance with all applicable laws, including the emissions and inspection requirements of their jurisdiction.
The GTS difference: a real tune built for your exact car, not one calibration with three names on a dropdown. We’ve got the injectors and turbo kits to back it up, and the in-house support to actually run it. Tuning VW, Audi & Porsche since 2010. Why we're different ›

STOCK: 150 HP / 170 LB-FT OR 170 HP / 177 LB-FT
STAGE 2: 195 HP / 205 LB-FT ON A 170 HP CAR

Fits

Every VW 2.5 liter 07K five-cylinder, on both ECUs. Pick yours in the ECU dropdown:

  • ME7.1.1: BGP and BGQ (2005 to 2007 Jetta and Rabbit, 150 hp), BPR and BPS (New Beetle, 2006 to 2010, 150 hp), and the 2008 CBTA and CBUA Jetta and Rabbit (170 hp).
  • ME17.5.6: the 2009 and later CBTA and CBUA (Jetta, Rabbit, Golf, Passat) and the CBTA, CBUA and CCCA in the 2012 and later Beetle, all 170 hp.

The year gets you close, but on a 2008 even the engine code does not settle it: the ECU part number does, 07K 906 032 for the ME7.1.1 and 07K 906 055 for the ME17.5.6. We read it the moment the cable is plugged in. Not sure which you have? The VW 2.5L 07K guide covers every code, and find your engine code takes two minutes.

What the tune does

Written for 93 octane / 98 RON and adapts to 91 / 95. The 2.5 has no turbo, so there is no boost to turn up: the gains come from timing, fueling and throttle response, a higher rev limit, and letting the engine breathe once the hardware allows it. The speed limiter comes out. It is a torque engine from the factory, strong low down and short of breath up top, and that is where the stages go to work. The SRI stage more than closes the gap between the 150 and 170 hp engines. It transforms the car.

Start at Stage 1 if the car is stock and move up when the hardware changes. Turbo 2.5 builds are custom work: email us the full spec before you order.

What you need on the car

  • Stage 1: nothing. It runs on a completely stock car.
  • Stage 2: an aftermarket intake and a cat-back exhaust. On the CBTA and CBUA, keep the secondary air hose breathing: most intakes for them include a small breather filter for it.
  • Stage 3 SRI: a short runner intake manifold, plus the intake and cat-back. Check fitment before you buy one: aftermarket manifolds are made for cars with electric power steering and will not clear the hydraulic pump on some later cars. Automatic? Add the 09G transmission tune: the SRI makes its power at the top end, and the factory TCU upshifts before the raised rev limit.
  • Before any stage: a healthy PCV diaphragm (it lives in the valve cover and tears) and no oil leak at the vacuum pump. A vacuum leak reads like a bad tune.

After you order

  1. Order. Pick your ECU and stage, then choose Remote Tuning. A GTS cable ships with your order for a one-time $40 and it is yours to keep for every tune after this one.
  2. Read. Plug the cable into the OBD port and a Windows laptop, Windows 10 or later. An Intel Mac on Boot Camp works too. Our software identifies your ECU and saves your original calibration before anything is written.
  3. Flash. We build the calibration for your engine code, your hardware and your fuel. You get a message the moment it is ready, and you flash it yourself in your driveway in about ten minutes.
  4. Log. Drive, log, send. If anything wants adjusting we adjust it and you flash again. Revisions usually come back the same day, and within 72 hours at the outside.

Prefer to mail the ECU in? Mail-in is free within the USA and Canada. We flash it on the bench and send it back in two to three days. How remote tuning works, start to finish.

Options explained

  • ECU: ME7.1.1 for the 2005 to 2008 cars, ME17.5.6 for 2009 and later. Same price either way.
  • Stage: pick from the table above.
  • Hard launch control (2-step): an add-on, for off-road and competition use.
  • Pops and bangs: exhaust crackle on lift-off.
  • IMMO delete (mail-in only): removes the immobilizer check so a swapped ECU runs without the key and cluster handshake. The ECU comes to us for this one, so choose Mail Service with it.
  • Mail or Remote: remote is what most owners pick. Mail-in if you would rather not touch a laptop. Dealer if a shop is doing the install for you, and we deal with them directly.

Why GTS

Tuning since 2010, as Gonzo Tuning first and as GTS since 2013. Every calibration is written in house and the flashing tool is ours, not a rebadged package, and we never ask for remote access to your computer. Your original calibration is kept, so the car can go back to stock whenever you want it to. Reflashes carry a one-year warranty, and if you are not happy within 30 days you can go back to stock for a refund under our return policy. Support in English and Spanish.

Ordering from Canada or overseas

Canadian owners have ordered from us since 2014 and Canada is our second-largest market. The tune is delivered digitally, the cable is delivered within Canada with no customs and no import fees, we accept Canadian cards, and return shipping on a mail-in ECU is free. Anywhere else in the world, remote tuning needs the car, the cable and an internet connection, nothing else. We have tuned cars in Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Hungary, Puerto Rico, Panama, Costa Rica and Barbados.
