GTS calibrations are developed for vehicles with all factory emissions equipment intact and functional. Features that remove or raise factory speed and rev limits are intended for closed-course use only. These calibrations are not CARB-certified, and the customer is responsible for compliance with all applicable laws, including the emissions and inspection requirements of their jurisdiction.
The GTS difference: a real tune built for your exact car, not one calibration with three names on a dropdown. We’ve got the injectors and turbo kits to back it up, and the in-house support to actually run it. Tuning VW, Audi & Porsche since 2010. Why we're different ›

STAGE 1: 260 HP / 300 LB-FT
STAGE 2: 280 HP / 330 LB-FT

Fits

This listing is for the VW and Audi 2.0T TSI, the EA888 Gen 1, with engine code CCTA or CBFA.

CodeYearsCars
CCTA (Federal)2008-2014late MK5 GTI, MK6 GTI, early MK6 GLI, Jetta 2.0T, MK1 Tiguan
CBFA (California PZEV)2008-2013late MK5 GTI, MK6 GTI, VW CC, Passat, Audi A3 8P

Not this listing. Same badge, different engines. Go by the code, not the car:

A 2008 GTI or Jetta 2.0T can be either engine. BPY is the FSI. CCTA or CBFA belongs here. MK7 and newer cars are in the EA888 Gen 3 guide.

What the tune does

Written for 93 octane / 98 RON and adapts to 91 / 95. Throttle response is sharper, the midrange fills in, and boost and timing are set for the fuel you actually run. On a stock 200 hp car, Stage 1 runs the factory turbo at about 18 psi. Stage 2 takes it to about 22 psi, near its limit. Stage 3 on the K04-64 wakes the engine up in a way Stage 2 cannot touch. Every stage: lag removed, speed limiter raised, rev limit raised to 7000, and better mileage when you are not in it.

The Gen 1 has an honest response to a tune, and it is one of the most rewarding 2.0T platforms to work on. The long version is in the EA888 Gen 1 and 2 Tuning Guide.

What you need on the car

  • Stage 1: nothing. Stage 1 runs on a completely stock car.
  • Stage 2: an aftermarket intake and exhaust. The calibration is built around the improved airflow, so do not run it on a stock car. An upgraded diverter valve is recommended from Stage 2 up: the tune asks more of it than the factory calibration ever did, and it is a cheap part and a short job.
  • Stage 3: the BorgWarner K04-64, a direct bolt-on replacement for the factory IHI, plus the Stage 2 intake, exhaust and diverter valve. The factory fuel system handles a base K04 on pump gas, so nothing else has to change.
  • Stage 4: a big turbo, plus the in-tank pump, the high-pressure pump internals and the injectors. Past a K04, or on ethanol, the fuel parts go in together, not one at a time. We will spec exactly what your target needs. Talk to us before you buy parts.

Before you tune

The EA888 Gen 1 and 2 weak spots, most important first:

  • Timing chain tensioner: engines built up to about 2012 used a tensioner that can fail and let the chain jump a tooth, and on an interference engine that is catastrophic. Go by the part number, not the model year: if there is no record of the revised 06K 109 467 K, replace it before you tune.
  • PCV: the diaphragm tears, and you get vacuum leaks, a rough idle, misfires and a loud whistle. A failed PCV pressurizes the crankcase and blows the rear main seal. Inspect or replace it before you add boost.
  • P0299 underboost: common even on stock cars. Check the diverter valve, then for a boost leak, then the wastegate.
  • Carbon: every direct-injection 2.0T builds it on the intake valves. Plan on a walnut blast every 60,000 to 80,000 miles.
  • Water pump: the plastic pump and thermostat housing leak on higher-mileage cars. Check them.

Each item is covered in the EA888 Gen 1 and 2 Tuning Guide.

After you order

  1. Order. Pick your stage, then choose Remote Tuning. A GTS cable ships with your order for a one-time $40 and it is yours to keep for every tune after this one. Already have one? Choose "I already have a GTS Remote Tuning cable".
  2. Read. Plug the cable into the OBD port and a Windows laptop, Windows 10 or later. An Intel Mac on Boot Camp works too. Our software identifies your ECU and saves your original calibration before anything is written.
  3. Flash. We build the calibration for your car, your hardware and your fuel. You get a message the moment it is ready, and you flash it yourself in your driveway in about ten minutes.
  4. Log. Drive, log, send. If anything wants adjusting we adjust it and you flash again. Stage 3 and Stage 4 usually take a revision or two to dial in for the exact hardware and fuel. Revisions usually come back the same day, and within 72 hours at the outside. If the car feels off after a flash, send us a log first: a torn PCV or a split diverter valve looks like a bad tune.

Prefer to mail the ECU in? Mail-in is free within the USA and Canada. We flash it on the bench and send it back in two to three days. Local? An OBD flash at the shop takes 10 to 15 minutes. How remote tuning works, start to finish.

Options explained

  • Stage: pick from the table above.
  • 2 Step / Antilag: hard 2-step launch control with antilag, an add-on for off-road and competition use. Leave the box unchecked if you do not want it.
  • Mail or Remote Tuning: "I want the Remote Tuning Service" if you need the cable. "I already have a GTS Remote Tuning cable" if you have tuned with us before. "Mail Service (Canada/USA)" to mail the ECU in. "Dealer" if a shop is doing the install for you, and we deal with them directly.

Why GTS

Tuning since 2010, as Gonzo Tuning first and as GTS since 2013. Every calibration is written in house and the flashing tool is ours, not a rebadged package, and we never ask for remote access to your computer. Your original calibration is kept, so the car can go back to stock whenever you want it to. Reflashes carry a one-year warranty, and if you are not happy within 30 days you can go back to stock for a refund under our return policy. Support in English and Spanish.

Ordering from Canada or overseas

Canadian owners have ordered from us since 2014 and Canada is our second-largest market. The tune is delivered digitally, the cable is delivered within Canada with no customs and no import fees, we accept Canadian cards, and return shipping on a mail-in ECU is free. Anywhere else in the world, remote tuning needs the car, the cable and an internet connection, nothing else. We have tuned cars in Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Hungary, Puerto Rico, Panama, Costa Rica and Barbados.
